Martin Murphy
Martin Murphy is a Canadian artist whose career has been a mix of oil painting, visual effects for film, and a professional career as a dancer/singer in musical theatre. After studying Editorial Illustration at Ontario College of Art (now called OCAD University) Martin performed across Canada in such productions as Cats, The Stratford Festival, and Phantom of the Opera while painting portrait commissions in his spare time.
Once retired from theatre Martin moved to California to work for LucasFilm’s Industrial Light and Magic working on such films as Pirates of the Caribbean, Star Wars, and Jurassic World as a digital artist and supervisor. He has won a Visual Effects Society award and was on the crew whose work has won two Academy Awards. Martin moved back to Canada in 2017 where he currently paints full-time out of Vancouver, British Columbia. His oil on canvas subjects ranges from figures to still life and a fascination with koi.
